Baby’s First BrickFair

It was part of my New Year’s Resolutions to finally build something to show at BrickFair, after a handful of years of just going as a member of the public. Mission accomplished! I thought for sure I would blog every night with photos– so I took photos of everything– but I didn’t get home until after midnight each night so there went that idea right there. LOL

First off, I just want to say how much I love AFOLs. Their mere presence reaffirms my existence. Yay LEGO-building nerdfighters! It’s so great to know that I don’t have to leave things like my beloved LEGO bricks behind me as I age. There’s not only a group of people but an official name for people like me who are still kids at heart… or who are adults at heart who want to build with LEGO. It’s bloody fantastic!

Day 1

Finished MOC: Gryffindor Tower

Posted late, but better late than never. Here’s my finished Gryffindor Tower!

My MOC-Card:
From the world of Harry Potter. This is part of Gryffindor Tower as I imagine it might look in the 1970s when the Marauders were students at Hogwarts. Can you spot James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and Nearly Headless Nick? Can you tell which bed belongs to which student?

BrickFair 2009

In just a few hours I’ll be ready to load my creations (carefully) into my car and hope they survive the trip over to my very first BrickFair as a participant instead of just a member of the public. I’m so nervous!

Tomorrow is setup and then panels & socializing & a special LEGO store sale & evening ceremonies. I hope it goes well. I will report back tomorrow night.

Finished MOC: Snape’s Worst Memory

It’s technically not completely finished. I’m still waiting on two tiny parts in the mail. But I used replacement parts for this scene in their places for now.

My MOC-Card:
This scene is from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Chapter 28) in which Harry looks into Professor Snape’s pensive and sees his father and Snape as fifth year students at Hogwarts. As the title implies, Snape doesn’t remember the incident fondly. He winds up upside-down.

Finished MOC: BookCrossing

Tonight I finished one of the two projects I thought up on Monday: BookCrossing!

If you’re planning on seeing it in person and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t click for the photo!

My MOC-Card:
BookCrossing is a fun hobby where you register books you don’t want any more online and then you pass them on to others to enjoy. Usually, you leave them somewhere “in the wild” for anyone to find. This LEGO scene shows a BookCrosser in action, leaving books all around town! Additionally, if there’s a book in the attached portion of this display, feel free to take it home, enter it online, and enjoy.

Finished MOC: Slytherin Common Room

Last night I completely finished the Slytherin Common Room!

If you’re planning on seeing it in person and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t click for the photo!

My MOC-Card:
From the world of Harry Potter. This is the Slytherin Common Room as I imagine it might look in the 1970s when Snape was a student at Hogwarts. It is described in the books as being dungeon-like with a low ceiling and green lamps & chairs. It is located below the lake where certain magical creatures live. Can you spot Severus Snape, Lily Evans, Regulus Black, and the Giant Squid? Gently lift the blue handle in the front for a better view inside the room.

BrickFair MOCs

So today I thought up two other MOCs I want to build for BrickFair. Am I going to have enough time? Meep! I sure hope so!

Now I’m up to 4 things I’m building. However, the good news is, I totally finished one of the them today! That’s right! I’m a little… terrified to conquer the Gryffindor Common Room ceiling… so instead I worked on one of the new MOCs today. With any luck, I should have that one done tomorrow. It’s a throwback to the sort of buildings I once made when I was 7 or 8. So I’m hoping it’ll be like riding a bike and I’ll have it done in no time. And the other one I came up with today should be relatively quick as well. I need to order some new heads, i think. But otherwise I think I’ve got everything I need for it brick-wise. Thank goodness. This is an EXPENSIVE hobby!
