Part 11

Where: Another uncharted island in the middle of the ocean
When: May, 1990

With Remus’ sense of adventure rekindled, the Doctor dialed up a destination, threw a few levers, and watched the glowing tubes as the TARDIS kicked into action.

Remus sat with his feet up on a footstool as he changed the bandage on his injury. It was healing nicely, thanks to a spell or two that Remus used to hurry it up. He didn’t want to try to mend it completely and couldn’t use the sorts of balms most wizards used because wolfsbane was a chief ingredient and he was horribly allergic to it in most any quantity. But within a day or two, it would be but another scar on his body, though a happy reminder of a good adventure.

The black turtleneck jumper Aya had given him was another. “So when are we going?” Remus asked excitedly.

“Not sure about when exactly. Usually I can’t get the date as exact as I’d like.” The doctor hit a button, which made the tube glow anew.

“All right then. Where are we going?”

“Well, if my calculations are right, you’re going somewhere that very few humans have ever seen. And you and I will be the only two who get to see it and then leave afterwards.” He grinned. “You’re gonna love it.”

Remus didn’t doubt that. He loved this. He hadn’t expected to love the unexpected so much. He supposed he had enough trust in the Doctor so as not to worry about that. Besides, the destination wasn’t really the important part.

When the TARDIS touched down, Remus leapt up excitedly and beat the Doctor to the door. He pulled open the door and looked around. All he saw was an open field. There was something in the distance that he couldn’t quite make out. Remus walked forward, the side of his hand up against his eyebrows to shade his eyes from the glare of the sun. He squinted at the something but before he could figure out what it was, he heard a sound and turned. There, thundering slowly across the field, was a gigantic dinosaur.

The Doctor had joined him outside by now and eyed Remus carefully. “So what do you think?”

Remus backed up, leaning against the TARDIS. “I think you took us back in time to the Jurassic Era!”

The Doctor grinned. “I think you’re wrong.” He grabbed Remus’ arm- the good arm. “Ready to explore? Promise we won’t get smushed.”

By now, Remus trusted him implicitly. Brontosaurus or no, he headed across the field towards the something that turned out to be a city. It wasn’t like any city Remus had every seen, though. The towering buildings were made of some tan sandstone-type brick and topped with green roves. But from dozens of windows there spouted small waterfalls, all emptying into a large river and gorgeous, massive white waterfall.

Remus was astounded and amazed. The Doctor had been correct; it wasn’t the Jurassic Era. Humans and dinosaurs lived in harmony, side-by-side, walking the streets, buying and selling, even conversing. The TARDIS helped translate that, too, strangely enough. He overheard conversations about philosophy, books, food, events- anything anyone might talk about in any typical town. Except… these were dinosaurs! “Amazing,” Remus breathed.

“Let’s poke around the city for a while. They tend to notice outsiders rather quickly, so we’ve no hope of blending in. But I’ve been here before and left as I said I would so they probably won’t make us sign the registry. This world belonged to the dinosaurs first, but now it is also full of shipwrecked souls and their descendants.”

“Are any of the dinosaurs dangerous?” Remus asked. “For that matter, are any of the humans?”

The Doctor laughed. “The meat-eating dinosaurs have their own parts of the island all to themselves. But the herbivores- dinos and humans alike- are just about as dangerous as anyone else we’ve met.”

Remus raised an eyebrow.

Not too long after, they were stopped by a dinosaur wearing a hat with a security logo on it. “Newcomers?” Its voice was high-pitched. Its skin was a flashy mix of bright green to dark green. It stood on its massive hind legs only as its arms were short. Its neck was long and its snout was elongated and almost flattened like a bill. It had large eyes on either side of its small head and large nostrils at the end of its snout. “Who are you?”

Remus nodded. The Doctor replied, “You can tell the king that I’m the Doctor and I have a plus one with me. We’re just visiting, as I was last time, and mean no harm. Look, I have a special pass from King Waldo that lets me come and go freely.” Remus glanced at the psychic paper as it was displayed and saw the pass was written twice- once in normal English and once in footprint language- though he could read it both.

The dinosaur looked at Remus, moving smoothly sort of like a lizard but, in a way, bobbing his head almost like a bird. It cocked its head at him. “Name?”

“Remus Lupin,” Remus said. “And yours?”

“Sergeant Gexeau.”

“I’m very pleased to meet you.”

“Enjoy your stay here. Breathe deep.”

“Seek peace,” replied the Doctor.

Feeling that this was some formality, Remus echoed “Seek peace,” as well.

Once the officer had gone, Remus gripped the Doctor’s arm tightly. He bounced on his toes, unable to contain his excitement. “I just had a conversation with a dinosaur. A dinosaur! How amazing is that?”

“I love seeing you so excited.”

Remus grinned sheepishly. “Oh, you do, do you?”

The Doctor patted Remus on the back. “C’mon.” The place was like an old, Medieval village, with wagons and wares set out in buckets and on wooden tables. Though there wasn’t any one culture or time that jumped out at him. This place was sort of an amalgamation of a hundred different places from a hundred different centuries. The shops were amazing Remus found himself standing and staring in shop windows so long that the Doctor had to poke at him to move him along. He was especially amazed by one shop selling what claimed to be ‘The Finest in Antiques and Antiquities’.

“Go in,” the Doctor said. “I’m going to go rustle up some grub. Hope you don’t mind your veg- Dinotopians don’t eat meat.”

“I’m sure whatever you find will be fine.”

The inside of the store was as interesting as Remus had thought it would be. China teacups, old engravings, globes, silver candlesticks, old dinosaur armor, shields with crests, nautical instruments- it was an overwhelming treasure trove.

“Well hello there.” Out from the shadows limped an older man. He had small, circular glasses, lovely brown hair just about the shade of Remus’, and a tiny bit of a faint moustache above his upper lip. He wore a hideous floral vest-coat but a nice, beige shirt with sleeves three times bigger than his the diameters of his arms. He wore dark brown trousers and big brown boots. “Cyrus Crabb at your service.”

“Are you now?” Remus turned away and pretended to be interested in an old, waterlogged, leather-bound journal.

“And you’re…” The man limped closer, paused, then closer yet, until he was right behind Remus. Remus looked over his shoulder at the man, playfulness shining on his face. “You’re… ah… interested in this book?”

“I’m interested in something.” Remus pulled away. “Just not sure what exactly.” Remus slowly strolled along the shelves, looking but not seeing. “Do you have any recommendations?”

“Depends what you’re looking for. Now that…” the man pointed to a small, stone, dinosaur statue. “That’s something that fell into my possession years ago. It’s a carving said to have been done by the very first ruler of Waterfall City. Just the sort of trinket a newcomer might like. I assume that’s what you are, in fact? I don’t remember seeing you here before… and I have a feeling I’d remember seeing a face like yours around.”

Remus blushed and turned away. “You are correct. I’m a traveler here. Just passing through.”

“No one just passes through Dinotopia.”

Remus smiled. “No one but me.”

“Is that so?” Cyrus asked thoughtfully. He laid a hand upon Remus’ shoulder.

Remus wet his lips and turned his head to look at Cyrus again. “I think I’ve found something I’d like to remember Dinotopia by.” He turned and put a hand on the man’s chest. “Problem is, I don’t have any money.”

“Mmm, that could be a problem.” He reached for Remus’ jeans, fingering the ‘new-fangled’ snap and zip there. “How about something to trade? A watch or a ring, perhaps?”

Remus thought for a moment, then produced a bronze knut. “Where I come from, these are the coins we use. But most of England- most of the world- has no idea they even exist. Rare indeed. The chances of you ever finding another are extremely small.” He handed it over, and the man inspected it.

“Well all right. There’s that settled then.” He tilted his head and stumbled backwards as Remus embraced and kissed him. “Wait, wait,” he chuckled. “Let me close the shop first. Don’t want any scalies walking in on us.”

“Is business really so booming?” Remus asked, pulling the man down onto the floor. “Let’s risk it.”

“Oh boy. You’re a man after my own heart, that’s what you are. What’s life without a little adventure, a little risk?” The man looked better without the awful clothes on. He was thin but lovely, though his leg did stand out a bit. Where the lower portion of his lower leg should have been, there was a barrel-like wooden leg between knee and shoe. Curious, Remus kissed it. “Just one of those unavoidable risks, I’m afraid. This place isn’t as magical and harmonious as it seems.”

“No place is,” said Remus, highly turned on. This man seemed… well, not quite trustworthy. And he clearly had his own opinions about things… but that’s what made it so interesting.

Remus slipped off his shirt, shorts, and socks. He couldn’t help rubbing his cock against the leg. It was a rough but simply wonderful sensation, so firm against his cock. The man chuckled, amused. He reached down and rubbed his hand through Remus’ hair. “That’s it, lad. You like that, don’t you?” Remus nodded, rather ashamed at how much he liked it. It would serve him right if he got a splinter or something. But, as he clenched the man’s leg between his thighs, Remus found himself thrusting, humping, unable to resist the sensations rushing through him on high.

Just in front of him was the man’s cock, nestled in dark curls, and Remus took it in his mouth. The man exhaled deeply. “Mmm?” Remus inquired, the vibration making the man gasp happily.

“Oh, lad. That’s good, that is.” Cyrus rested his head back on the floor, arching his back. “Sooo good.” He sighed again. “Tell me ‘bout where you come from,” he said. “Tell me about outside Dinotopia.”

“S’nice,” Remus said, around the man’s cock. “Huge skyscrapers.” He circled his tongue around the head. “Jets planes.” He sucked. “Underground subways.” He licked. “Space shuttles.” He sucked again. “Olympics. Cures for diseases. Organizations. Movements. Festivals. Music. Movies. Television. Books. Radio.” He lifted his head, looking up at Cyrus. “Everything changes. Everything moves forward. But that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good or even better. Looks like what you’ve got here is nice, too.”

The man shrugged and looked down at Remus through his glasses. “It is right now.” He rubbed on Remus’ head again, ruffling affectionately. He kept his hand there, directing Remus back to his cock. He relaxed again, digging his hand into Remus’ hair. “That’s perfect. Right there.”

Remus moved up and down more quickly. His head bobbed back and forth more quickly, as well. His erection fought against the wood, painfully rubbed raw but begging for more. The torturous urges controlled him now, unwilling to let him go. He was trapped by them, and by this man’s desires. All he could do was play it out until… until… Remus came and almost chocked on the cock as cum spurted into his mouth at the same time. Remus shook and rode his friction-induced orgasm out, swallowing what he could, taking it in the face when he couldn’t and needed a breath.

As both of their orgasms were subsiding, the door to the shop opened and terror registered in Cyrus’ eyes. They scrambled about behind the counter, knowing that at any moment, they could be seen. Remus quickly swallowed the rest and licked Cyrus clean. Then he helped the man dress before Remus made himself presentable.

It was the Doctor. Remus really should have known. As he fastened his pants, he heard the two men talk. He listened to the tap of Cyrus’ cane on the floor and heard the Doctor talk slowly, obviously giving Remus a bit of time. He was generous and considerate, the Doctor.

Once he was dressed, Remus grabbed a scroll from behind the counter and popped up with it. “Here it is,” he said.

“Oh, thanks for that.” Cyrus tapped his cane against his wooden leg. “Not as agile as I used to be.”

Remus walked around the counter and put his hand on the Doctor’s back. “Well, thank you for showing me your shop. Some very fine wares here. And I wish you all the best.”

Cyrus nodded and lifted a hand in a wave.

The Doctor had found some very interesting foods. After the fun in the antiques shop, Remus was starving. He devoured the sandwich, not knowing exactly what it was but knowing it was delicious. He was hesitant about trying the fruit, which was bright orange but looked like grapes. But the Doctor pulled one off its stem and fed it to Remus. It tasted decadently sweet.

“This was incredible,” Remus said, as they headed across the city to go back to the TARDIS. “Such amazing harmony and it’s incredible to realize that dinosaurs still exist in the world. It’s going to be hard to top this.”

As they walked, Remus thought he heard familiar footsteps. He concentrated on the quiet sound until he was absolutely certain he recognized that characteristic limp. Casually, Remus pulled the Doctor aside, down a close between two shops. By the time Cyrus Crabb got there, he found nothing where the two travelers should have been.
